Sequenced mathematics

What if the secret to teaching maths was knowing the order to teach?

The Y Intercept is a complete Foundation–Year 1 maths teaching program that breaks concepts into the smaller skills children need to master, then connects them in a carefully designed learning sequence.

Trying to work out what goes here. Important I think:

- Foundation and Year 1 building to Year 7

- Explicit and inquiry stages in each lesson

- Built to teach with immediately

- Free for Pilot Schools

- Teachers $390 reduced to $200 until 2027

How The Y Intercept works

One complete teaching system.

Designed from a carefully engineered learning path for foundation maths. Small, sequential steps that include the hidden skills not stated by the Curriculum.

The difference is in the chunking and ordering

What students learn next depends on what they understand now.

A real learning progression example

Understanding tens, one at a time

Each lesson teaches a small amount of knowledge throughly, leading seamlessly into the next lesson.

Lesson 1

Using Bundles to Make Tens

We are learning to group a collection into tens by bundling ten items together, with any leftovers staying loose.

Lesson 2

Counting Collections with Tens

We are learning to count a large collection accurately by grouping it into tens rather than counting one by one.

Lesson 3

Using MAB Ones

We are learning to group MAB one blocks into tens, the same way as with other materials.

Lesson 4

Understanding the MAB Tens Rod

We are learning that a MAB tens rod is worth ten ones already joined together.

What's included

We've done the thinking and planning. Now it's time to teach.
